BOSTON, MA -- Another week in the books in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), as the next set of games will all take place this upcoming holiday weekend, at the first league showcase of the season. Looking back on the past few days, and 11 of the 12 EHLP teams took to the ice, meaning there were plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.
The EHLP is pleased to announce that Patrick Swain (Philadelphia Little Flyers), Ryan Clear (New Jersey 87s), and Curtis Briggs (Connecticut Chiefs) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.
The upcoming EHLP schedule includes 17 games over the holiday weekend at the IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston, PA. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released following the showcase on Tuesday, October 9th at 12:00pm. Catch the EHLP action all season long on HockeyTV.
Swain and the Little Flyers won their only game of the weekend, in what turned out to be, the best matchup in the EHLP. There were multiple lead changes throughout the game with the Philadelphia Revolution, but it was Swain's tally with just 7 seconds left that proved to be the difference in this one. The '99 finished the game with a pair of goals and 1 assist to his name, giving him 9 total points in the first 5 games of the season. With the win over their rival, the Little Flyers are now set to host the October Showcase, where they will face-off with the Vermont Lumberjacks, the New England Wolves, and the Valley Jr. Warriors.
On the blue line this past weekend, Clear shined brightly for the 87s. The 2000-born defenseman finished the weekend with 4 total goals, as New Jersey split their pair of contests. Clear's first tally came in a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Saturday night. It was then his hat-trick against the Central Penn Panthers on Sunday, that helped his team to the weekend split. Clear scored back-to-back goals to begin the 2nd period, and then found the back of the net for the 3rd in final time in overtime. The 87s currently sit in 1st place of the Mid-Atlantic Conference, and they are ready to take on the Walpole Express and the Connecticut Chiefs at the Little Flyers Showcase.
Speaking of the Chiefs, the newcomers to the New England Conference won both of their games this past weekend, and Briggs was between the pipes for the shutout victory over the Walpole Express on Saturday night. The '99 turned away all 54 shots that were sent his way, en route to his 2nd victory of the season. The Chiefs are now 3-1-0 to start the season, and they will lean on their netminder again this weekend, as they take on the New Jersey Renegades, the Central Penn Panthers, and the New Jersey 87s at the first showcase of the season.
This week's EHLP Honorable Mention goes out to Owen Newhouse of the Philadelphia Revolution. The 2001-born forward finished the weekend with a pair of goals and 3 assists to his name, and that included the game-winner against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Sunday. Newhouse now has 6 goals and 3 assists through his first 6 games in the EHLP.
