BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) is officially back in full swing as this past weekend featured 8 games, and 9 total teams in action. With a large number of teams and players beginning their respective 2018-19 season, there were plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.
The EHLP is pleased to announce that Burke Ruel (New England Wolves), Jack Johansen (New England Wolves), and Jake Lakatos (New Jersey Renegades) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.
Another busy weekend in the EHLP kicks-off on Friday at 7:00pm. The schedule features 11 total games including the first action of the season for both the Boston Jr. Rangers and the Connecticut Chiefs. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, September 24th at 4:00pm. Catch the EHLP action all season long on HockeyTV.
Ruel and the Wolves kicked-off their season in grand fashion, winning all three of their home games. The undefeated start to the year included wins over the Central Penn Panthers, Valley Jr. Warriors, and Walpole Express. There were many players who made key contributions over the weekend, but Ruel was the offensive catalyst, as he notched 8 points to his name. The '99 had a pair of goals to go along with 6 assists, and those totals included the game-winning tally against the Express this past Sunday. Ruel will look to stay hot, as he leads the Wolves on the road this weekend for a pair of games against the New Jersey Renegades.
Sticking with the Wolves, the team's 2nd leading scorer from the weekend was Johansen. The 2000-born defenseman from Milford, NH tallied at least a point in all 3 games, and finished the weekend with a pair of goals and 4 assists to his name. On Friday, it was actually the Panthers who jumped out the lead first, but that was quickly erased when Johansen tied the score. Following his goal, the Wolves never trailed once the rest of the weekend, and just like Ruel, he'll look to keep things rolling as the Wolves take their perfect record on the road.
Between the pipes this past weekend, there were number of strong performances, but it was Lakatos who shined brightest in his win over the Vermont Lumberjacks. On the road for their season opener, the '99 anchored the Renegades while making 35 saves on 36 total shots, and that included a save on a penalty shot as well. Lakatos then turned around and made 29 saves the next day, as the Renegades dropped a one-goal contest to the Valley Jr. Warriors. After being named a TSR Hockey Star of the Week a total of 3 times last year, Lakatos already has his first honor of the 2018-19 campaign.
