BOSTON, MA -- Mark it down, that's 1 showcase officially in the books for the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP). This past weekend featured all 13 teams in action, along with a guest team from Arizona. All 14 total teams hit the ice for 3 games apiece over the weekend at Brewster Ice Arena. In 21 total games, the EHLP teams combined to light the lamp a total of 124 times. Another key stat from the weekend shows that nearly 43% of the games were decided by 2 goals or less. That percentage jumps to almost 62% when you count out all the games decided by 3 goals or less. Just like in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), the parity is strong throughout the region.
The EHLP is pleased to announce that Danila Larionovs (Boston Jr. Rangers), Josh Davis (New Jersey Renegades), and Tyler Savino (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.
The week ahead includes 10 more games on the EHLP schedule through Sunday. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Tuesday, October 24th at 10:00am. Catch the EHLP action all season long on HockeyTV.
Larionovs and the Rangers won all 3 of their games at the showcase this past weekend, stretching their winning streak up to 6 games. The native of Latvia tallied at least a point in all 3 games in New York. He finished the showcase with 3 goals and 3 assists, running his season totals up to 10 points in 6 games so far this season. The week ahead for Larionovs and the Rangers includes a pair of home matchups against the Philadelphia Little Flyers on Saturday and Sunday.
Davis and the Renegades won 2 of their 3 games at the Brewster Showcase. Only 1 victory counts towards the standings, with the EHLP Guest not being one of the regular 13 teams in the league. However, all stats count for the players, and the '99 had a great weekend. Davis tallied a goal and 3 assists during the weekend, and those four points were his first of the season for the Renegades. Davis will look to carry the momentum of a great first showcase into a huge home-and-home series with the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers this weekend.
Speaking of the Jr. Flyers, the top team in the South Conference went 3-0-0 at the showcase, improving their record up to 9-0-1 on the season. Savino was in net for 1 of the victories, and it was arguably the biggest win on Saturday night over the Vermont Lumberjacks.
In a matchup of 1st place teams, Savino lead the Jr. Flyers to a 5-1 victory while stopping 25 of 26 shots that he faced. The '99 now owns a record of 3-0-0 for the season to go along with a 3.23 GAA. The 1st place Jr. Flyers now get set for a home-and-home series with the New Jersey Renegades, as they look to keep their 8-game winning streak alive.
As we mentioned above, with tons of scoring throughout the showcase, there will plenty of solid options for this week's award winners.
This week the EHLP would like to recognize a pair of honorable mentions, starting with Christian McCue of the New Jersey 87s. McCue had a hat trick against the EHLP Guest and finished the weekend with 4 total points in the 3 games.
Our 2nd honorable mention goes out to Dave Tremblay of the Central Penn Panthers, who factored in all 4 of his teams goals in Brewster. While the final results weren't what they desired, the 2000 forward once again proved his value to the Panthers.
