BOSTON, MA -- The prep work is officially finished in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP). This past weekend featured all 13 EHLP teams in action, as now comes the first showcase of the season in Brewster, New York. With all the players hitting the ice, this past weekend brought with it plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.
The EHLP is pleased to announce that Kevin Troy (New Jersey 87s), Bailey Kubara (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers), and Dean Kern (Boston Jr. Rangers) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.
This weekend's showcase kicks-off on Saturday and runs through Monday. Along with a guest team, 14 teams will hit the ice with 7 games scheduled on each of the 3 days. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released following the showcase on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:00pm. Catch the EHLP action all season long on HockeyTV.
Troy and the 87s swept their weekend set of games improving their record up to 6-1-1 for the season. New Jersey's 13 points has them tied for 1st place in the South Conference with the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers. Troy led the way on offense this weekend for the 87s, starting off with a pair of assists in 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Revolution on Saturday night. A day later, Troy came back with hat-trick that included the game-winner as the 87s shutout the Central Penn Panthers by the score of 8-0. Next up for the 87s, they will face-off with the EHLP Guest, the Walpole Express, and the Central Penn Panthers at this weekend's showcase.
The trend continues with regards to the EHLP's top defensemen. For the 3rd week in a row, a Philadelphia defenseman has selected for the weekly honor. You can also now check off all 3 Philly teams when you include the Star of the Month for September.
As for Kubara and the Jr. Flyers, this past weekend only featured 1 matchup against the Valley Jr. Warriors on Saturday night. Led by Kubara's goal and 3 assists, the Jr. Flyers jumped out to the lead and never looked back in route to an 8-4 victory. Next up for Philadelphia are matchups with the Vermont Lumberjacks, Valley Jr. Warriors, and New England Wolves at the Brewster Showcase.
Kern got the nod and the win in both games this week against the New England Wolves. The Rangers and Wolves played a home-and-home series with a few days in between. Led by Kern between the pipes, the Rangers came away victorious by scores of 6-2 and 7-1. Kern stopped 60 of the 63 shots he faced, and is now a perfect 3-0-0 on the season. He'll look to maintain a stellar 1.67 GAA when the Rangers hit the ice this weekend against the New Jersey Renegades, New York Applecore, and Jersey Wildcats.
Despite just 1 game on the schedule this weekend, Dugan made it count while netting a hat-trick for the New Jersey Renegades. All 3 goals came in the 1st period for New Jersey and paved the way for a 4-2 win over the Jersey Wildcats. Through the first 8 games, Dugan leads his team with 12 total points.
