Thomas, Parker, and Smith Named 3 Stars of the Week

BOSTON, MA -- We've turned the corner, and started our way down the final stretch of the 2016-17 regular season in the EHLP. This past weekend featured 12 of the 15 Premier Division teams in action, and plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

We're pleased to announce that Skyler Thomas (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers), Ben Parker (Boston Jr. Rangers), and Brian Smith (Valley Jr. Warriors) have been named the EHLP Stars of the Week.

Also, this week's EHLP Team of the Week is the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack, with an Honorable Mention going out to Travis Quigley (New York Applecore).

Skyler Thomas

Thomas and the Jr. Flyers swept their home-and-home weekend series with the New Jersey Rockets. With the pair of victories, the Jr. Flyers improve to 23-6-1 (47 points) on the season, and their five-game winning streak has them hot on the heels of the Philadelphia Revolution for the top spot in the South Conference.

  • Saturday, January 21st ::: Jr. Flyers 5 - Rockets 3 ::: (0g, 1a, 1p)
  • Sunday, January 22nd ::: Jr. Flyers 9 - Rockets 2 ::: (2g, 2a, 4p)

Thomas' five-point weekend included the game-winner on Sunday. The '99 forward from Narberth, PA now has 43 points in 26 games this season for the Jr. Flyers. Thomas will look to continue to lead the way when the Jr. Flyers host the New York Applecore for a pair of games this weekend.

Ben Parker

Parker and the Rangers split their pair of weekend games, and the native of Ashland, Massachusetts was in net for his team's win over the Walpole Express on Sunday.

  • Sunday, January 22nd ::: Rangers 2 - Express 1 ::: (43 Saves)

Parker was stellar Sunday afternoon, stopping 43 of the 44 shots that came his way. The '98 netminder has now won three games in a row, all of which were decided by just a single goal. Parker will look to continue to anchor his team as they head down to Pennsylvania for a pair of games with the Lehigh Valley Jr. Rebels this weekend.

Brian Smith

Smith and the Warriors won two of their three matchups this past weekend, improving their record up to 18-11-3 (39 points) on the season. Valley currently owns sole possession of 4th place in the North Conference standings.

  • Friday, January 20th ::: Warriors 5 - Monarchs 2 ::: (3g, 1a, 4p)
  • Sunday, January 22nd ::: Warriors 6 - Revolution 5 ::: (3g, 2a, 5p)

Smith's nine-point weekend also included the game-winner on Friday night against the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs. For the 2nd straight week Smith is named the Star of the Week, and this week he shined brighter with nine total points in comparison to last week's seven. The Warriors have a pair of road games ahead of them this weekend as they face-off with the Northern Cyclones on Saturday, and the Walpole Express on Sunday.

EHLP Team of the Week

This week's EHLP Team of the Week is the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack.

The Wolfpack only had one game this past weekend, but they made it count as they knocked off the top team in the North Conference.

  • Sunday, January 22nd ::: Wolfpack 5 - Lumberjacks 4 SO

After losing to the Vermont Lumberjacks by the score of 2-1 (OT) back in October, Hartford turned the tables in their favor this time around.

Down 3-2 earlier in the 3rd period, Hartford scored a pair of unanswered goals to take the lead. Vermont was then able to tie the score late, sending the game to extra time. No dice in overtime, and eventually, Jordan Fongemie got the only go of the shootout, giving Hartford the win and ending Vermont's winning streak at 11 games.

EHLP Honorable Mention

This week's EHLP Honorable Mention goes out to Travis Quigley (New York Applecore).

Quigley and the Applecore picked up their 4th and 5th wins of the season this past weekend, as they swept the Lehigh Valley Jr. Rebels in Pennsylvania. The '97 forward had two goals and three assists over the weekend, giving him 17 total points in six total games for the Applecore Elite team this season.
