Mosso Named 2016-17 Coach of the Year

BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) is pleased to announce that Jim Mosso (Vermont Lumberjacks) has been named the 2016-17 Coach of the Year. The award was voted on by all of the head coaches in the league.

"I am not surprised to hear to that Jim has been voted the Coach of the Year again this season," said Mark Kumpel, the EHLP's Director of Hockey Operations. "Being named Coach of the Year is an unbelievable honor, and Jim truly respects that. Jim is not only the head coach of the Lumberjacks EHLP team, but also the General Manager for the whole organization. Jim's talents as a coach and administrator have helped build a solid contender at both levels, EHL and EHLP. After a good season last year, Jim took his EHLP team to another level this season, winning the Regular Season title."

After finishing with a record of 18-22-2 last season, Mosso and the Lumberjacks took off this past September and never looked back on their way to a 36-4-2 regular season. While Vermont fell in the Round Robin stage of the playoffs, Mosso knows that a lot was still gained from this year.

"Being voted as Coach of the Year by the other coaches in the league is just an incredible honor," said Mosso. "Many of the coaches in this league, I have looked up to for the past 10 years, some of which, I actually played for. I believe the coaches of the Eastern Hockey League, are the best in the business, and I am proud that they have given me the respect as one of their own."

Mosso went on to talk about the coaches that have helped mentor him along the way, and offer his thanks to those leaders.

"I would like to thank Coach Doc Delcastillo for being my coaching mentor, and Mr. Lary for teaching me about creating culture and respect. This has trickled down to our players, and it is very rewarding that the Vermont Lumberjacks are being recognized with such an honor. I would also like to thank Chris Cerrella, Jon Lounsbury, and Rich DeCaprio for being major influences on who I am as a coach, offering wisdom, and for giving me a target in which I strive to resemble."

Outside of winning the 2016-17 Regular Season Championship in the EHLP, another Lumberjacks highlight this season came from The Daughters of the American Revolution.
